The 4 Month Baptizm
General Información
May is on the horizon, but with the staggering 0 times it rained here, I can't see the April showers bring many May flowers this year. But, this weekend did bring the annual "Festival of Tacos" to town, so I can't complain too much. It was the perfect
timing as well, as we went there Saturday night to celebrate a baptizm here in Celaya!! Yay! And then I ended up getting sick the next day from the tacos!! I think I am going to take a break now from tacos for a little but they were still really good!! No
but really, I don't want to eat tacos anymore.
A Little Tinnie Tiny Hunch
Anyway! Baptizm! I have to admit, this one was one of the more speical ones, as the story starts way back in December during my first change in Celaya. All of our appointments had fallen through, and as we walked around the park close to our house thinking about what to do next, I had the hunch to go and check the folder of old investigators at the house. I mentioned this to my traineer, and he told me I would be losing my time to check there, but after some nagging, we went back to search. Like a scene from a movie, I pulled out the giant, dust-covered folder, sat down at my desk. Before I started searching, I said a prayer that I could find the one person in that was a baptizm, and after calling 20 numbers with 20 very strong "no's", I stumbled upon the register of Petra. She was an investigator of about 2 years ago, but had problems with her husband, so the missionaries stopped visiting. The next day, we went and visited her, and she told us how her husband, Rafael, who use to be a heavy drinker, had completely changed, and was a good man now. Another change passed by, and we could never find her at home, and then Elder Isiordia and I started our time together, and our first week together we found her again. After a few lessons, her husband, who never gave the missionaries a chance before to teach him, started to take them with his wife. In the 10 weeks that followed, we saw many miracles in their lives, the husband found work for the first time in 2 years, their family grew closer, and the light of the Gospel began to shine through in their lives. The 2 of them were suppose to get baptized this Saturday, but Rafael called us an hour before the baptizm and told us he didn't feel ready. It was a little bit of a bummer, as he has changed so much since when we started, but everyone has their own free agency, but he still wants the lessons and for us to visit, and I have faith that a baptizm for his is coming here in the future. And thankfully, his wife Petra still went through, and was baptized Saturday. She is a miracle, and it took a long time to get to this point, but the 2 years was worth it, as she made one of the most important decisions of her life, and made this first covent with God. I am forever grateful that Isiordia and I had the chance to be instruments in the hands of our lovely Heavenly Father, and like Alma talked about, we got to see this seed of the Gospel grow in the hearts of Petra and Rafael, and become delcious to them.

El Fin
After that short novel, I would like to finish this email with my little testimony about the importance of faith. I think faith is a word that sometimes we hear so many times that we forget it's meaning. But, Alma 32:21 helps us to clarifty the defintion, as he explains that faith isn't the perfect knowledge of something, but to have hope in things that you can't see, but that are true (sorry for the paraphrasing here, as in all honesty I can only remember it in Spanish at this point). In life, there are many challenges and hard times that we go through, and our Heavenly Father is there is help us, we just need to have the hope that he really is there. He really hears your prayers, is there is help you, and LOVES you. I know that, and not because I have a perfect knowledge of it, but because I have the hope of it. With faith, we can have hope about whatever cames our way, and we can always see the light in the darkness. Wishing you all a happy May here in Mexico, and I'll be back next week!
